Persian Heriz-Design Varni Kilim — Golden Ivory & Indigo | 4'1" × 7'
If you love the bold medallion of a Heriz rug but want something lighter underfoot, this is a lovely way to have both. The centre is a large stepped medallion in dark navy, with ivory spokes radiating outward, each one filled with red tree-like forms. Small framed squares, branching sprigs and serrated leaves surround it, and the whole design floats on a soft golden-ivory field.
The angular, architectural drawing comes straight from the Heriz tradition of north-western Iran, but here it is translated into a flatweave. In Varni technique weaving the pattern is wrapped into the fabric rather than knotted as pile, so the design sits crisp and flat with a gently textured surface.
The border is worth a close look: a band of stepped crosses in turquoise, orange, olive and red, framed by narrow stripes of small white flowers. It is a newly woven piece in clean condition, and its size suits a bedroom, an entry or the end of a sofa.
